Buyer's Help Guide
Searching for and purchasing animals online can be difficult. You will be more confident and better able to make decisions, if you do some research beforehand and gather as much knowledge and information as you can. Buyers and Sellers both need to be constantly vigilant to safeguard against fraud and scams.
Some information you may want to gather:
Do you know the traits of the breed of animal?
Do you know the general medical requirements for this breed?
Are you prepared for veterinary visits after purchase? (it is recommended)
Does your vet have experience with this breed?
Will the Breeder allow you to visit prior to purchase?
What type of food is fed, and any special day-to-day care?
How old are the animals when shipped?
Is shipping cost included or extra? What else do you need to know about shipping?
Is this Breeder registered, and with which agencies?
Are all animals from this Breeder registered, and do you receive paperwork?
What medical records does this animal have, and do you receive them?
Does this Breeder provide any guarantees, contracts, and refund policies?
Is there a difference when purchasing for pet versus for breeding purposes?
What is the environment in which the animals are raised?
Can you find any information about this Breeder from other sources?
Watching out for yourself:
Always keep a record of any communication related to a potential purchase!
If the Breeder's city, State/Province or Country do not match the place you're asked to send money, you should be critical and ask for the reason.
Some Scammers may create fake advertisements using stolen pictures - a good method to discover this scam is to request new pictures of the animal (you may even go as far as to request a specific pose or item in the photo).
A clear and understandable contract should be a standard item, as they protect both the Buyer and the Seller. If the Breeder does not provide contracts and you continue to pursue the purchase, you should be twice as vigilant in keeping records of conversation details.
